Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Switzerland as the newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, Wahab A. Akande, presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin.
The ceremony took place at the Federal Palace in Bern on September 8, 2026, marking the formal commencement of Ambassador Akande’s diplomatic engagement in Switzerland.
During the ceremony, Akande conveyed the greetings of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Parmelin and expressed Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with the Swiss authorities to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
He identified trade and investment, development cooperation, culture, education and innovation as key areas where both countries could deepen their partnership.
The ambassador also stressed the need to expand economic and development cooperation while exploring opportunities for stronger institutional, commercial and people-to-people partnerships.
Akande highlighted the Nigeria-Switzerland Bilateral Consultations as an important mechanism for sustained diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
According to him, the framework provides an avenue for reviewing bilateral relations, advancing shared interests and identifying new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to constructive dialogue and closer collaboration with Switzerland on issues of common interest, expressing confidence that his tenure would contribute to deepening the cordial relations between both countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ceremony underscored Nigeria’s continued commitment to building a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial partnership with Switzerland.
