The Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commended security agencies and other groups involved in the successful rescue of 16 Corps Members abducted in Kogi State on August 26, 2026.
The Corps Members were abducted while travelling from the Bayelsa State Orientation Camp to Abuja for relocation after completing their Orientation Course.
In a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC expressed profound appreciation to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Kogi State vigilante groups and other stakeholders who participated in the search and rescue operation.
The Scheme praised the professionalism, courage, commitment and coordination demonstrated by the security personnel during the operation.
It also acknowledged the support of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria towards ensuring the safety and welfare of Corps Members nationwide.
According to the NYSC, the security agencies were motivated by the President’s concern and commitment to securing the safe and prompt release of the abducted Corps Members.
The Scheme further commended the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Minister of Youth Development for their crucial roles in the recovery efforts.
The NYSC also appreciated the families of the affected Corps Members for their patience and cooperation throughout the period, as well as the media for its professional handling of the incident without compromising the safety of the Corps Members while in captivity.
The Management said it was relieved that all 16 Corps Members had been safely recovered and were in high spirits, expressing their readiness to resume duties at their respective places of primary assignment.
It noted that the Corps Members’ resilience was “humbling and instructive,” assuring them of continued support as they recover from the traumatic experience.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of all Corps Members, saying it would continue to collaborate with government and security agencies to strengthen protective measures.
The Scheme added that lessons had been learned from the incident and that its protocols would be reviewed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“Salute to courage, duty, and patriotism,” the NYSC stated, adding: “Nigeria is ours; Nigeria we serve.”
