Nilayo Sports Management, organizers of the Enugu City International Marathon, has commended the Enugu State Government, sponsors and residents of the state for their support towards the successful hosting of the second edition of the race.
The Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management, Mrs Yetunde Olopade, expressed the appreciation while speaking with journalists after the event on Saturday.
Olopade particularly praised Governor Peter Mbah for his leadership, vision and commitment to positioning Enugu State as a destination for sports tourism and international athletics.
She said the state government’s support, particularly in logistics, security and hospitality, contributed significantly to the success of the marathon.
“The Governor’s support was exceptional. From logistics to security and hospitality, the Enugu State Government showed that it is ready to host world-class events. We are truly grateful,” she said.
The Nilayo Sports Management boss also acknowledged the contributions of the official sponsors, including 7Up through Aquafina, Afia TV, Pinnacle, Power Oil and Enugu Air.
According to her, the sponsors’ support in areas such as hydration, media coverage, branding and logistics helped to provide a world-class experience for participants and spectators.
“We cannot talk about the success of this marathon without mentioning our sponsors. To 7Up through Aquafina, Afia TV, Pinnacle, Power Oil, and Enugu Air, thank you for believing in the Enugu City International Marathon,” Olopade said.
She also commended the people of Enugu for their massive turnout, hospitality and enthusiastic support for the runners throughout the race route.
“The energy from the people of Enugu was incredible. The cheers along the route, the hospitality, and the sense of pride in the city made this marathon memorable for all the athletes. This is what makes Enugu special,” she added.
The second edition of the Enugu City International Marathon, held on Saturday, attracted more than 3,000 participants who competed in the 42-kilometre and 10-kilometre races.
The organizers said the event was among the best-organized road races held in Nigeria this year.
Nilayo Sports Management, in partnership with the Enugu State Government, also disclosed that preparations had commenced for the 2027 edition, with plans to make it bigger and more competitive.
