The National Sports Commission (NSC), in partnership with the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and Main Organizing Committee (MOC), has unveiled the official mascot for the 2026 National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Enugu State in November.

The mascot, named ‘Odumeze’, was unveiled on Friday at the Enugu State International Conference Centre following an inspection of key facilities across the state ahead of the multi-sport event.

The Enugu State Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, who represented Governor Peter Mbah, performed the unveiling.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ossai said the name Odumeze translates to “Boldness, Strength and Power,” values which, according to him, reflect the spirit of the Games and the identity of the people of Enugu State.

“Enugu and its people are ready to host the festival,” the Deputy Governor said, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to delivering a world-class event.

The Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the unveiling as an important activation that would help build momentum and generate nationwide interest in the Games.

“I am excited for games of this nature. We need this activation for the games to resonate all over the country and to also resonate all over Enugu State,” Olopade said.

He expressed satisfaction with the unveiling, adding, “We had a very brief event and it’s amazing. I am very proud to be associated with ‘Odumeze’.”

Olopade also commended the Enugu State Government and the LOC for the progress recorded in preparations, assuring that the NSC would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the festival meets international standards.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, thanked dignitaries and partners for their support towards the successful hosting of the festival.

He said Governor Mbah had been working to ensure that Enugu hosted a memorable edition of the National Sports Festival.

According to him, the state had drawn lessons from previous editions and was focused on providing quality facilities, athlete welfare, adequate security and hospitality for participants and visitors.

The unveiling of Odumeze marks a major milestone in preparations for the 2026 National Sports Festival, with the NSC, LOC and MOC stating that work is progressing across venues, accommodation, medical services and transportation.

The Commission urged athletes, coaches, state sports councils, corporate partners and Nigerians to support Odumeze as the symbol of unity, strength and sporting excellence ahead of the Games in November.
