The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has constituted a three-member Media Sub-Committee for its 2026 Triennial National Delegates Congress scheduled to hold in Kaduna from August 26 to 29.
The committee is chaired by Samuel Ahmadu, Managing Editor of SavidNews and NigeriaFootball.ng, while Austine Agbo Emmanuel, Blueprint correspondent and Assistant Secretary of the SWAN Kaduna State Chapter, will serve as Secretary.
Tunde Liadi of The Nation Newspaper and Sporting Life completes the committee.
According to SWAN Secretary-General, Ikenna Okonkwo, the appointment is part of efforts to ensure effective media coverage, content generation and dissemination before, during and after the congress.
The congress is themed, “Harnessing the Power of Sports and the Media for National Development, Youth Empowerment and Global Competitiveness.”
The event is expected to bring together sports journalists and delegates from across Nigeria to deliberate on the future of sports journalism, professional development, welfare, digital transformation and the broader role of sports media in national development.
The Media Sub-Committee will coordinate content creation and dissemination across print, online, television and radio platforms, as well as provide timely content for SWAN’s official website.
It will also develop content around the congress and key national, continental and international sports issues, particularly those relating to sports development and elite performance.
The committee’s assignment takes effect immediately and will continue beyond the congress. Members are expected to maintain high standards of integrity, confidentiality and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.
SWAN called on members of the media and other stakeholders to support the committee in ensuring comprehensive coverage of the congress and its outcomes.
The association expressed confidence that the Kaduna congress would strengthen sports journalism and contribute to the development of Nigerian sports.
