The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has hosted an inter-agency meeting to strengthen preparations for the official launch of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative in Nigeria.

The meeting, held on Friday, August 21, 2026, was chaired by the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, and attended by key government agencies and development partners involved in disaster risk reduction and climate resilience.

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, attended the meeting, while the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, participated virtually.

Also represented were the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Ibrahim Mohammed; the Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju; and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

During the meeting, the Local Organizing Committee presented a progress report on preparations for the national launch, highlighting key inter-agency engagements, milestones achieved and priority actions.

The Inter-Agency Technical Committee also presented the Nigeria EW4All Implementation Roadmap 2026–2029, outlining the framework and priority actions required for coordinated implementation of the initiative.

The meeting further strengthened collaboration among participating institutions and reaffirmed their commitment to developing people-centred, multi-hazard early warning systems to improve disaster preparedness and strengthen climate resilience across Nigeria.

The EW4All initiative seeks to ensure that everyone is protected by early warning systems, particularly vulnerable communities exposed to climate-related and other hazards.
