The countdown to the 2nd Enugu City International Marathon has entered its final stage, with organisers announcing a five-day Marathon Expo at Michael Okpara Square from August 24 to 28, 2026.
The expo, which will serve as the official pre-race festival, will bring together athletes, sponsors, government officials, running enthusiasts and residents ahead of the marathon on Saturday, August 29.
Michael Okpara Square will also serve as the official kit collection centre for registered participants in the 42km elite marathon and 10km fun run. Runners are expected to collect their race bibs, timing chips and official kits during the five-day period.
Beyond race preparations, the expo will feature sponsor activations and brand showcases, health and wellness booths, sports merchandise, local vendor exhibitions, fan zones, entertainment and cultural displays.
A spokesperson for Nilayo Sports Management, organizers of the marathon, said the expo would provide an opportunity for athletes and residents to experience the excitement surrounding the event.
The event, supported by the Enugu State Government, is also expected to boost commerce and tourism by creating opportunities for local businesses, artisans and hospitality operators.
The expo will be open to the public daily and free of charge.
The programme will culminate in the Enugu City International Marathon World Press Conference on August 28, where organizers are expected to announce final details on logistics, security and prizes.
The marathon itself will hold on Saturday, August 29, with the 42km elite race starting at 6:30 a.m. from ShopRite on Abakaliki Road, while the 10km fun run will commence at 8:30 a.m. from Chris Tee Petrol Station on CIC Road and finish at Opara Square.
Organizers said the five-day expo will set the stage for what is expected to be the biggest road race in Enugu’s history.
