The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed profound sadness over the death of prominent Niger State political figure, community leader and philanthropist, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora.
In a condolence message issued on Sunday, Idris described the late Wali as a close associate, trusted friend and distinguished son of Niger State whose life was defined by generosity, loyalty and commitment to the progress of his people.
“I have received with profound sadness the news of the passing of my dear friend and brother, Alhaji Ibrahim Wali, the Garkuwan Kontagora. His death is a deeply personal loss to me and a painful one for the people of Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” the Minister said.
Idris said Wali distinguished himself through years of service to his community, using his influence and resources to support people and promote causes aimed at improving lives.
He described the deceased as “a man of the people in the truest sense,” noting that he understood the responsibility that came with privilege and influence and consistently used both to uplift others.
According to the Minister, Wali made significant contributions through philanthropy, support for education, empowerment of the less privileged and his commitment to community development.
“As Garkuwan Kontagora, he carried his traditional responsibility with dignity and devotion. He remained deeply connected to the aspirations of the people and was a respected voice on matters affecting Kontagora Emirate and Niger State,” Idris added.
The Minister said he would personally miss Wali’s friendship, counsel, warmth and ability to build bridges across different segments of society.
“We have lost a dependable friend and a patriot who genuinely desired the progress of his people,” he said.
Idris extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora and the entire Kontagora Emirate, as well as the government and people of Niger State.
He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late Garkuwan Kontagora, reward his good deeds with Aljannatul Firdaus, and grant his family and all those affected by the loss the fortitude to bear his passing.
