The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the restoration of four previously suppressed State Houses of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States, following court judgments mandating their reinstatement.
The newly restored constituencies include Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II in Kogi State.
INEC has scheduled party primaries for these constituencies from August 21 to August 25, 2026. This timeline aligns with primaries for bye-elections in other constituencies, including Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency (Gombe State), Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies (Bauchi State), Udu State Constituency (Delta State), and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency (Kano State). The elections for these areas are set for September 19, 2026.
The Commission emphasized that all other timelines and activities outlined in the revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election will apply to the restored constituencies.
Political parties have been urged to submit notices of their primaries to INEC ahead of the scheduled dates.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes as the nation prepares for the upcoming general elections.
