The National Sports Commission (NSC) has renewed its confidence in the Nigeria Super Falcons as they prepare to face South Africa in a pivotal 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup playoff match scheduled for Thursday night in Casablanca.
Despite a narrow defeat to Cameroon in the quarterfinals of the ongoing WAFCON tournament in Morocco, the 10-time African champions still hold a strong chance to secure their place at the 2027 World Cup through the Inter-Confederation playoff.
Honorable Bukola Olopade, Director General of the NSC, urged the team to quickly move past the disappointment of their recent loss and focus fully on the upcoming match against South Africa.
“The Super Falcons remain Africa’s biggest football brand and the pride of the continent. This rare loss to Cameroon should not define them because we know how good they are,” Olopade said.
He added, “The girls have brought us tremendous joy over the years, and I want them to know that Nigerians are definitely behind them, more than ever before, as they play this crucial game tonight.”
The NSC Director General also assured the team of the Federal Government’s unwavering support and confidence in their ability to qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
“Speaking on behalf of Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, I want to urge our girls that the Federal Government is fully behind them and will continue to do everything possible to ensure they secure the World Cup ticket,” Olopade emphasized.
The Super Falcons now face a critical test of resilience and determination as they aim to keep Nigeria’s proud football legacy alive on the global stage.
