Nigerian Judoka Enku Ekuta has made history by ending the country’s 24-year medal drought in judo at the Commonwealth Games, winning bronze in the women’s 63kg event at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Ekuta secured the historic medal on Saturday, becoming Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Games judo medallist in over two decades.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for Nigerian judo and has been attributed to the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) enhanced high-performance preparations for Team Nigeria ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Games.
The bronze medal is expected to provide a major boost for the sport in Nigeria while underscoring the impact of the NSC’s investment in elite athlete preparation as Team Nigeria continues its campaign in Glasgow.
