Nigeria’s medal haul at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games received another major boost as Edidiong Joseph Umoafia clinched the country’s fourth gold medal in the men’s 71kg weightlifting event.
Umoafia produced a commanding performance to finish top of the standings, defeating John Lautafi Tafi of Samoa and Ezekiel Moses of Nauru to secure the gold medal.
The victory further strengthens Team Nigeria’s impressive campaign at the Games, adding to the nation’s growing collection of medals and reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse in Commonwealth weightlifting.
