Team Nigeria will begin its final journey to the host city of Glasgow on Tuesday, July 21, as preparations enter the final phase ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which begin in three days.
The first batch of Nigerian athletes and officials will depart their pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen for Glasgow, while the second batch is scheduled to move into the Games Village on Friday, July 24, to join teammates already on ground for the opening events.
The phased relocation marks the conclusion of weeks of intensive training and acclimatization in Aberdeen, where the athletes have sharpened their readiness for one of the Commonwealth’s biggest sporting events.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) said it has continued to provide comprehensive technical, medical and welfare support to ensure the athletes arrive in Glasgow in top condition and ready to compete.
Nigeria will field a strong contingent across several sports, with optimism high following a series of encouraging performances by its athletes at recent continental and international competitions.
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held from July 23 to August 2, bringing together about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations to compete for 215 gold medals across 11 sports.
Scotland is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time, having previously staged the event in Edinburgh in 1970 and 1986, and in Glasgow in 2014.
The NSC expressed confidence that Team Nigeria’s thorough preparations would translate into strong performances, with the athletes expected to proudly represent the country throughout the Games.
