Nigeria’s 3×3 basketball team has intensified preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a training camp in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as the countdown to the multi-sport event enters its final two weeks.
The team, led by D’Tigers star Ike Nwamu, is using the overseas camp to fine-tune strategies ahead of the Games, which begin in Glasgow, Scotland, in 14 days. As part of their build-up, the squad is scheduled to play two international friendly matches in Amsterdam before departing for Scotland.
Preparations are also gathering pace across other Team Nigeria contingents, with several foreign-based athletics stars expected to arrive in the United Kingdom in the coming days.
Among the athletes expected are sprint sensation Kanyinsola Ajayi, world record holder Tobi Amusan, Samuel Ogazi, Ezekiel Nathaniel and other members of the athletics team.
Meanwhile, more than 75 Nigerian athletes are currently camped in Aberdeen, Scotland, where they are undergoing intensive training ahead of their final journey to Glasgow for the opening ceremony.
The National Sports Commission said the final phase of camping and international exposure is aimed at ensuring Team Nigeria is in top competitive shape as it targets a strong outing at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
