With just over two weeks to the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, excitement is mounting as about 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations and territories prepare to compete in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Games, scheduled to hold from July 23 to August 2, will feature competition in 10 sports and 215 medal events, with participating countries vying for Commonwealth honours.

Nigeria is among the countries expected to feature prominently at the Games alongside established sporting nations including Australia, England, India, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, Wales, Jamaica, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Trinidad and Tobago.

The 2026 edition will also mark the participation of Gabon and Togo, bringing the total number of competing Commonwealth nations and territories to 74.

Organizers said the Games will adopt a streamlined format, with events taking place across four existing venues in Glasgow. The approach is aimed at delivering a more sustainable and cost-effective competition while maintaining world-class sporting standards.

Glasgow previously hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and returned as host city 12 years later, with officials hoping to showcase elite sport through a compact and efficient model that maximizes existing infrastructure.

As the countdown continues, athletes across the Commonwealth are intensifying their preparations ahead of the opening ceremony, with thousands expected to converge on Glasgow in pursuit of medals and national pride.
