The Federal Government has expressed sympathy to the Government and people of China following the deadly landslide that struck Tanchang County in Gansu Province, claiming at least 21 lives.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Nigeria described the disaster, which occurred on Tuesday, July 7, as tragic and extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
The government also expressed concern for those injured and others affected by the incident, while praying for the speedy recovery of the injured and comfort for bereaved families.
Nigeria commended the swift response of the Chinese authorities and emergency rescue teams, acknowledging their efforts to save lives and provide relief to victims amid ongoing rescue operations.
Reaffirming the strong ties between both countries, the Federal Government said Nigeria and China share a long-standing strategic partnership founded on mutual respect, friendship and cooperation.
It added that Nigeria stands in solidarity with China during this difficult period and expressed confidence in the resilience of the Chinese government and people as they work towards recovery and rehabilitation in the affected communities.
The Ministry reiterated Nigeria’s prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased, the recovery of the injured, and strength for families affected by the disaster.
