The Federal Government has congratulated the Republic of Malawi on the occasion of its Independence Anniversary, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between both countries.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, extended warm congratulations to Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honourable Nancy Tembo, and the people of Malawi as they marked the national celebration.

The minister described the anniversary as a significant milestone that reflects the resilience, unity and enduring spirit of the Malawian people in their pursuit of sovereignty, peace and sustainable development.

She said Nigeria joined Malawi in celebrating the historic occasion, noting the two countries’ shared commitment to freedom, democratic values and regional stability.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu also highlighted the cordial bilateral relations between Nigeria and Malawi, saying both nations have continued to strengthen cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, capacity building and multilateral engagements.

According to her, Nigeria and Malawi also collaborate within the African Union, the United Nations and other international platforms to promote peace, security and sustainable development across Africa and beyond.

The minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Malawi by exploring new areas of cooperation and enhancing people-to-people exchanges for the mutual benefit of both countries.

She further conveyed Nigeria’s best wishes to the Government and people of Malawi for continued peace, prosperity and national progress.
