The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed Engr. Elekwachi Chukwudi Dimkpa as the President of the Nigeria Karate Federation (NKF), bringing to a close the leadership dispute that followed the federation’s election held last year.
The Commission said the decision underscores its commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency and due process in the administration of sports federations across the country.
Engr. Dimkpa, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (FNIEEE), is an accomplished engineer, business executive, sports administrator and public servant with decades of experience in leadership, governance and organizational development.
A longstanding stakeholder in the growth of karate in Nigeria, he previously served as the South-South Chairman and Board Member of the Nigeria Karate Federation, where he contributed significantly to policy formulation, athlete development, sponsorship and the overall advancement of the sport.
Over the years, Dimkpa has invested personal resources in organizing and sponsoring national and regional karate championships, supported Team Nigeria’s participation in major international competitions, and championed initiatives aimed at strengthening karate administration in the country.
The NSC noted that his experience in leadership, strategic planning, resource mobilization and organizational transformation positions him to provide effective leadership for the federation.
Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, said the Commission would continue to uphold fairness, equity and justice in ensuring that all sports federations are properly governed in line with established regulations.
Olopade also appealed to members of the karate community to embrace reconciliation, peace and unity in the interest of the sport.
He urged the federation’s president to operate an open-door policy, carry all stakeholders along and work towards fostering harmony and sustainable development within the Nigeria Karate Federation.
