The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful restoration of the Alaoji–Owerri 132kV Transmission Lines 1 and 2, bringing the transmission corridor back to full operation and enabling normal electricity supply to affected areas.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN disclosed that the two transmission lines were re-energised at 7:05 p.m. and 7:06 p.m. respectively, following the completion of repair works on faults that caused the lines to trip on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
According to the company, its maintenance team swiftly identified the fault location and mobilized to the site to commence repairs.
TCN explained that after repairs were completed on Line 1, the line was restored at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Tuesday, allowing for the partial restoration of bulk electricity transmission to Imo State, Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, and parts of Rivers State, including Ahoada.
The company noted that Line 1 was subsequently de-energised temporarily to facilitate the safe repair of Line 2. It explained that the close proximity of the two high-voltage lines could have resulted in electromagnetic induction on the faulty line if the adjacent line remained energised, thereby posing a significant safety risk to maintenance personnel.
TCN said the temporary outage of Line 1 was approved by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) and carried out with the concurrence of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC).
The arrangement, it stated, created the safe working conditions required for engineers to complete repairs on Line 2 and restore it to service.
“With the successful restoration of both transmission lines, the Alaoji–Owerri transmission corridor is now fully operational. EEDC and PHEDC can now offtake full load for onward distribution to their customers,” the statement said.
TCN expressed appreciation to electricity consumers affected by the outage for their patience and understanding, while apologizing for the inconvenience caused.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a reliable and efficient transmission network for the evacuation and delivery of bulk electricity across the country.
