Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Australia, Olufemi Olusegun Pedro, has formally presented his Letter of Credence to the Governor-General of Australia, Sam Mostyn, marking the official commencement of his diplomatic duties in the country.
The credential presentation ceremony took place at Government House in Canberra on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:45 a.m.
Ambassador Pedro was accompanied by officials of the Nigerian High Commission, including Mr. Abba Mustapha, Minister Counsellor; Mr. Paul C., First Secretary; and Mrs. Aminat Adeola, First Secretary and Head of Chancery.
Upon arrival at Government House, the High Commissioner inspected a Guard of Honour before proceeding to the credential presentation ceremony, where Governor-General Mostyn formally received his credentials.
Following the ceremony, Ambassador Pedro held discussions with the Governor-General on issues of bilateral interest between Nigeria and Australia. He advocated the establishment of a Nigeria–Australia Business Council as a platform to deepen trade and investment relations between the two countries.
The Nigerian envoy also called for enhanced collaboration in vocational education, highlighting the importance of skills development and capacity building in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
The presentation of credentials formally authorizes Ambassador Pedro to represent the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Australia and further advance diplomatic, economic and educational relations between both nations.
