Nigeria’s Security, National Outlook Improving Under President Tinubu—Says Defence Minister

The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.) OFR, has stated that Nigeria’s narrative is gradually changing under the purposeful leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who remains fully committed to securing the nation and strengthening national development.

General Musa made this known on Thursday, 21st May, 2026, in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists shortly after the official commissioning of the annex branch of Haam Legal Consult Services, a statement by Leah Katung-Babatunde, SA Media to the Minister noted.

The Minister noted that President Tinubu has consistently supported the Armed Forces of Nigeria in all ramifications, thereby enhancing the military’s capacity to tackle insecurity across the country.

He disclosed that the Nigerian military is also working closely with its American counterparts and other peace-loving nations in combating the security challenges confronting the country.

He assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain committed and are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

General Musa urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces in the fight against insecurity, stressing that national security is a collective responsibility and cannot be achieved by the military alone.

He called on citizens to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and refrain from aiding or supporting criminal elements in any form.

According to him, criminal elements continue to thrive in some communities because certain individuals still provide them with support and protection.

“If all Nigerians decide today that there will be no more support for criminals, I can assure you that within one month, these security challenges would largely become things of the past,” he stated.

Speaking on leadership and the nation’s democratic process, the Honourable Minister emphasized the need for credible and visionary leaders who are passionate about the growth and development of Nigeria.

“We do not need criminal-minded individuals in leadership positions. We need leaders who genuinely have passion for this country and are committed to making the necessary changes Nigeria desires. We all travel outside the country and see how things work; it is all about leadership. Once we have purposeful leadership, things will change. Nigeria is changing,” he said.

General Musa further appealed to Nigerians to actively participate in politics and support leaders who are genuinely committed to nation-building. He advised citizens against ethnic, religious, or sentimental politics, as well as selling their votes or compromising the future of the nation for personal gain.

On the newly commissioned law firm, the Honourable Minister commended the initiative of young legal practitioners, particularly the Principal Partner of Haam Legal Consult Services and Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Defence, Barrister Aliyu Anas, for dedicating themselves to the service of humanity through the legal profession.

He stressed the importance of law, justice, and respect for human rights in nation-building.

“A community that is respected is a community that obeys the law and respects the rights of others. Without law and order, humanity cannot thrive, and no nation can command respect if its laws are not obeyed. Even businesses cannot flourish in an environment where there is no respect for the rule of law,” the Minister stated.

He prayed for the continued growth and success of the firm in fulfilling the purpose of its establishment and rendering quality legal services to humanity.

Earlier, the Head of Chambers, Barrister Abdulsalam Ibrahim, appreciated the Honourable Minister of Defence and his entourage for honouring the occasion. He pledged that the firm would continue to render services with fairness and justice in accordance with the ethics of the legal profession.

He disclosed that the firm offers services in areas such as land and property agreements, legal advisory services, legal drafting, election matters, property management, contract reviews, real estate, Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration, among others.
