The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has commenced a two-day Stakeholders’ Policy Review Workshop in Lagos to review the National Telecommunications Policy (NTP) 2000.
The Workshop which is expected to run from May 20-21 brought together stakeholders to evaluate milestones and chart the next steps for Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
Speaking at the event, the NCC Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Dr. Aminu Maida stated that communications is no longer an isolated sector, but a massive ecosystem. He called for advanced policy frameworks on Artificial Intelligence, Satellite Broadband, Internet of Things (IoT), Critical Infrastructure, Digital Sovereignty and Quality of Experience (QoE).
Dr. Maida highlighted the massive economic impact of connectivity as GSMA estimates that digitizing Agriculture, Manufacturing, Transportation and Trade can add 2% to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), create two million jobs, and generate ₦1.6 Trillion in Tax revenue.
To protect this growth, the EVC emphasized that modern regulation must robustly integrate Cybersecurity, Data Governance, Digital Financing, and Online Safety to balance innovation with trust.
The workshop will see panels discuss collaborative implementations, bridging the digital divide, and reviewing stakeholder feedback on the published Policy Proposals.
