The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed an attempted robbery attack at the Ogbomosho Transmission Substation in the early hours of Sunday, 10th May 2026.
According to preliminary findings, a group of armed intruders reportedly gained unauthorized access to the facility by scaling the perimeter fence close to the main gate late Saturday night into Sunday morning. The suspects allegedly advanced toward the gatehouse with the intention of overpowering the vigilante security personnel stationed at the facility.
However, the security operatives on duty swiftly responded by firing warning shots, forcing the attackers to abandon their mission and flee through the same route they used to enter the premises.
Following the incident, security personnel discovered several items believed to have been used by the suspects during the attempted operation. Blood stains, footprints, and abandoned tools were found near the perimeter fence, while a subsequent daylight search led to the recovery of a bag containing additional implements suspected to belong to the fleeing intruders.
TCN stated that the matter has been reported to relevant security agencies and investigations are currently ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved, while also strengthening measures to forestall future incidents.
The company confirmed that no member of staff or security personnel was harmed during the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical power infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its personnel nationwide.
TCN also disclosed that a formal report on the incident has been scheduled for presentation at the Oba’s Palace on 11th May 2026.
