The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Osogbo Region, has declared force majeure on the Offa 132kV Transmission Substation following a violent robbery incident that temporarily disrupted operations at the facility.
According to TCN, heavily armed attackers stormed the substation in the early hours of Thursday, 7th May 2026, overpowering security at the premises and forcing their way into the control room. Staff on duty were reportedly held hostage at gunpoint while the assailants compelled the operator to shut down both the Offa and Ojoku 33kV feeders at about 12:45 a.m.
The armed men also demanded a complete shutdown of the station, during which several control switches and relay buttons were tampered with. The station’s 40MVA transformer was subsequently opened at about 1:07 a.m.
TCN disclosed that efforts to restore operations commenced shortly after the attackers left the facility. The 40MVA transformer was restored at 1:13 a.m., while the Offa 33kV feeder was restored at 1:14 a.m. The Ojoku 33kV feeder later came back on stream at about 2:15 a.m.
The company expressed regret over the disruption caused by the incident and reiterated its commitment to the efficient transmission of bulk electricity to distribution companies and consumers nationwide.
