The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has called for enhanced collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen security across the nation’s airports.
She made the appeal on Tuesday while receiving the Commander of the National Air Defence Corps, Air Vice Marshal Japhet Ekwuribe, during a courtesy visit aimed at deepening institutional cooperation between both agencies.
Mrs. Kuku noted that the increasingly complex nature of aviation security threats requires sustained partnership, improved intelligence sharing, and coordinated operational responses to ensure safer airport environments.
She stressed FAAN’s readiness to work closely with the Nigerian Air Force in key areas including airside security patrols, improved communication on sensitive flight operations, and proactive surveillance of airport perimeters.
The FAAN MD also raised concern over rising cases of land encroachment around airport facilities, describing it as a challenge that demands joint monitoring and swift intervention to protect critical aviation assets.
According to her, strong inter-agency collaboration remains central to maintaining safety, efficiency, and global standards in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
In his remarks, Air Vice Marshal Ekwuribe of the Nigerian Air Force appreciated the warm reception and commended FAAN’s proactive stance on aviation safety. He said the visit was aimed at strengthening operational ties and improving coordination on shared security responsibilities.
He added that closer cooperation would enhance surveillance capacity, improve response times, and strengthen overall security architecture within airport environments nationwide.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to sustained engagement and the development of practical frameworks to support safe and efficient airport operations.
The engagement underscores ongoing efforts by FAAN and the Nigerian Air Force to reinforce the protection of aviation infrastructure and ensure continuous safety across Nigeria’s airports.
