The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the promotion of 471 junior staff across its offices nationwide.
The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mr. Sam Olumekun, who made this known in a statement on Thursday, 25 September 2025, explained that the decision was made following the Commission’s regular weekly meeting, presided over by the Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
According to the statement, the meeting also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship election, the Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as the conduct of party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun Governorship elections.
The IVEC Chairman disclosed that a total of 515 staff were shortlisted for the 2025 promotion exercise. Of these, 214 met the requirements for promotion to GL.07, 134 to GL.06, 106 to GL.05, and 17 to GL.04, bringing the total number of successful candidates to 471.
He explained that the promotion of junior staff concludes the first phase of the exercise, while the process for promoting senior staff has already commenced.
Reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to merit-based career progression, Mr. Olumekun said, “Staff promotion is a routine exercise. The Commission remains committed to regular, merit-based promotion and the welfare of staff. We urge all staff to rededicate themselves to service, particularly with regard to elections and electoral activities.”
