The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Park at the University of Ibadan (UI), in a landmark move aimed at boosting innovation, digital skills, and research capabilities in Nigeria.

The facility, strategically located within the university campus, is equipped to foster cutting-edge research and entrepreneurial ventures, with a focus on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and advanced computing.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, described the project as a critical component of Nigeria’s broader digital transformation agenda. “This ICT Park represents a major milestone in our mission to strengthen the national innovation ecosystem and enhance technological capacity across the country,” he stated.

The newly launched park boasts a 100-seat main hall, five specialized ICT hub halls, high-capacity computing infrastructure, collaborative workspaces, and incubation centers designed to support tech start-ups and academic research.

Engr. Abraham Osadami, NCC’s Head of Technical Standards, described the facility as a “one-stop innovation hub” that will accelerate the development of indigenous digital solutions and drive inclusive growth within the tech sector.

Expressing appreciation, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale, lauded the NCC for the initiative, noting its potential to transform the learning environment, enhance digital literacy, and position the university as a center of technological excellence. “This is more than just an investment in the University of Ibadan, it is a strategic investment in Nigeria’s digital future,” he remarked.

Also speaking at the event, the university’s Executive Director of ICT, Mrs. Abiodun Alao, praised the NCC’s continued support, highlighting its significant impact on the university’s infrastructure, learning environment, and global academic competitiveness.

The ICT Park at UI forms part of the NCC’s broader vision to bridge the digital divide, empower the next generation of innovators, and position Nigeria as a key player in the global digital economy.
