The Ijaw Diaspora Council, has joined countless admirers and well-wishers across the globe, to celebrate a monumental milestone—the 80th birthday of Chief (Senator) Dan Dauzia Loya Etete, the esteemed Ndagbudu Keme Keni of Izon-Ibe.
Chief Dan Etete’s life and contributions remain profoundly intertwined with the progress and prosperity of the Ijaw people and the Nigerian nation. His legacy as a transformative leader in the oil and gas sector is one of bold vision and unparalleled impact, a statement by the President, Ijaw Diaspora Council and the Amadabo of Ijaw Diaspora, Professor (Amb.) Mondy Gold disclosed on Friday, December 10, 2025.
He stated that as Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum from 1995 to 1998, Chief Etete played a pivotal role in shaping policies that ensured the sustainable management of Nigeria’s oil resources, adding also that his leadership laid the foundation for energy reforms that not only strengthened the nation’s economy but also advanced the empowerment of indigenous participation in the industry.
‘‘Notably, his tenure was instrumental in catalyzing the creation of Bayelsa State—a monumental achievement that brought the Ijaw people closer to their aspirations of self-determination and regional development.
