The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognized Barrister Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the legitimate Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in compliance with a recent Supreme Court ruling.
The decision was contained in a press release signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Sam Olumekun mni, dated Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
He explained that the decision was taken at the Commission’s meeting of Tuesday December 17, 2024, after INEC was served the Supreme Court’s judgment on the party’s leadership tussle delivered on the 27th of November, 2024.
According to the IVEC Chairman, “The Supreme Court’s judgment, delivered on 27th November 2024, in the case of Appeal No. SC/CV/824/2024 (APGA & ANOR vs OYE & ORS), recognized Barr. Ezeokenwa as the rightful Chairman of the party. In adherence to this ruling, INEC has promptly restored Barr. Ezeokenwa’s name as the Chairman on its official website.”
The decision follows a protracted legal battle within the party, and the Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the court’s directive in ensuring the proper representation of political party leadership in Nigeria.
Mr. Olumekun emphasized that the Commission is acting in full compliance with the Supreme Court’s decision.
