The Nigerian Correctional Service, FCT Command, has apprehended a lady identified as Precious Yusuf who attempted to smuggle substances suspected to be psychoactive drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, FCT.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued on July 10, 2024 by Adamu Samson Duza, Deputy Superintendent of Corrections Public Relations Officer For FCT Command.
According to Duza, the apprehension occurred on Tuesday, 9th July, 2024, when the said lady came in the guise of a visitor to one of the inmates.
During usual routine searches by personnel on duty, items suspected to be cannabis sativa as well as other psychoactive substances were found concealed in food packs which were to be handed over to the inmate.
The Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, has since ordered that the suspect be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution.
The Controller warned visitors with such intentions to have a rethink as their machinations will surely be uncovered by eagle-eyed personnel.
He called on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Nigerian Correctional Service in its efforts towards reforming and rehabilitating offenders so as to foster public safety.
