Abakaliki: Relief materials have been distributed to over 1000 flood victims in Ebonyi state.
The distribution covered the flood victims that were affected in the 13 local government areas of the State.
Flagging off the programme, the wife of the governor, Chief Mrs. Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru thanked the federal government for complementing the efforts of the state in assisting the flood victims.
According to the First lady, the flood disaster has brought untold hardship to the victims in the State, as it has destroyed many lives and properties, stating that the State government on their part, has taken proactive measures to assist the victims and commended President Bola Tinubu and the governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Ogbonna Nwifuru for the quick intervention to the disaster affected people.
In her words, “Today we witnessed the tangible manifestation of our government’s commitment to ensure that no one is left behind during this difficult time. I also extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Commissioner for Human Capital Development—our own mother general— for your efforts in ensuring that the real people who are affected are mobilized to be here today.
“I want to express my deepest sympathy to all those who have been affected by the flood. We are here to support you as you rebuild your lives and properties”, she said.
In her remarks, the Zonal Coordinator NEMA, Mrs. Ngozi Echeazu, said the relief materials were brought by the federal government to mitigate the sufferings of victims of the flood disaster in the State.
She called on the people of Ebonyi State to take all precautionary measures by the federal government against floods and other natural disasters.
She also commended the governor of Ebonyi, through the Commissioner for Human capital development, Mrs Ann Aligwe for always asking the federal government to come to the help of victims of natural disasters in the State.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Mrs Ann Aligwe, had explained that the relief materials were jointly brought by both the State and Federal Governments to those affected by floods and other forms of natural disasters.
She said, “You know today, we have so many disasters. We have a feeding welfare disaster, we have fire disaster, flood disaster, money disaster. So, everywhere is a disaster.
“But His Excellency, Governor Ogbonna Nwufuru and Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Ukamaka Nwifuru wants to tell you that today, there is no more disaster”.
