Abakaliki: Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has emerged the winner of Ebonyi south senatorial primaries conducted on Sunday, 31st July, 2022 at Afikpo North local government area of the state.
Declaring the result, professor Emmanuel Adebayo, the APC National officer, announced that governor David Umahi polled 250 votes to defeat his rival, Mrs Ann Nwanyibuife Agom Eze who scored zero(0) vote.
Eze had approached the Federal High Court, Abakaliki to declare her winner, having come second in the first primary, following the withdrawal of Chief Austine Chukwu Nweze, who was earlier declared winner.
Other contestants for the fresh senatorial primaries include; Mr Austine Chukwu Nweze,10 votes, Mr Ibiam Margaret Ezenwanyi, three votes, Mrs Chukwu Elizabeth Nwakaego, five votes.
“By the power imposed on me by the national chairman of APC, I Professor Emmanuel Adebayo, hereby declare and affirm that Nweze David Umahi, having scored a total of 250 votes which is the highest of votes, is hereby returned as winner in this election”.
In his reaction, governor David Umahi Nweze, thanked the people of Ebonyi state for the solidarity and support given to him during the APC fresh senatorial primaries and defying heavy rain to come out, describing the ticket as a strong ticket.
“This ticket is a very strong ticket. It is a ticket that other tickets in Ebonyi State are leaning on”, he said.
The Senatorial fresh primaries was held in compliance with the judgement of an Abakaliki Federal High court which ruled that Ebonyi south senatorial primaries be conducted within 14 days, following the withdrawal of Chief Austine Umahi earlier declared as a winner.
