President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday gave an order to all members of his cabinet and appointees vying for electoral offices to resign on or before May 16, 2022.
The order came at Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by the President at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, The Sight News gathered.
The Minister of information, Lai Mohammed disclosed this to State House correspondents shortly after the meeting.
Cabinet members affected include: Ministers of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba; Justice minister and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
Others include the Minister of State, Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, who is running for the governorship position in Abia State; Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, who declared her ambition to contest the senatorial seat in Plateau State.
The Sight News also gathered that some of them have started resigning, and the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi was also added to the list of those that have resigned their positions.
A tweet by the APC United Kingdom on its handle @APCUKingdom read “[BREAKING] Nigeria’s Minister of #Transportation, HM Chibuike R. Amaechi [@ChibuikeAmaechi] has resigned from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to focus on his Presidential Campaign.
“Thank you for your service to Nigeria🇳🇬”.
However, when our Reporter sought to verify the information, the Media Aides to the Minister labeled it as “Fake News”, signalling that the Minister has not resigned his position.
With this, it is not yet certain when, and if the Minister will resign his position to focus on his political career as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
