KATSINA: The Transportation University Daura, Katsina state, is expected to begin academic activities in September 2022.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Transportation, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi on Monday when he visited the school to inspect the level of work that has been done so far.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari, while performing the groundbreaking ceremony in December 2019, had said the newly-established institution would bring rapid development to the transport sector as well as generate both academic and non-academic employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Amaechi, on his part, also said that education is key to the building and maintenance of all transportation infrastructures which was the reason he insisted on the University of Transportation.

Speaking to Journalists on the level of work at the inspection, he noted that only seven buildings are remaining, according to the contractors, adding that those seven buildings should be ready before September.

“I have asked the Permanent Secretary in the ministry to invite them for a meeting so that this school can start functioning from September, this year”, he said.

Amaechi also inspected the ongoing railway project in Kano State where he pointed out that claims that some structures were being erected around to get compensation from the government, is an issue that has to be tackled by the state government.

According to him, “Until I speak with the governor, I can’t respond to that. Yes, it is the responsibility of the governor to give us unencumbered land, despite the fact that we have paid.

“So, if there are problems we are encountering, we will speak with him. We are  encountering problems; that is not in dispute. But I think that the best person to resolve those disputes will be the governor of the state.”

Speaking on the commissioning of the Dala Inland Dry Port which he also visited, he said, “If you say I am not impressed that will be a wrong word. They promised me that they will complete it by today. Have they completed the structures?  Yes! But, I didn’t see the landscaping, so I said until you complete the landscaping, I will not be able to bring the President here.

“If they complete the landscaping then we can bring the President to come and commission. But have they finished all their structures, it appears they have finished their structures”.
