The culture of giving and reaching out to the less privileged in the society has again been brought to the front burner as a major catalyst for positive change.
This was the central focus during the annual thanksgiving celebration organised by Rochas Foundation held at the Unity House in Abuja, recently.
During the program, Nigerians were repeatedly admonished to embrace the culture of helping the poor and needy as exemplified by Rochas Foundation with top dignitaries, including the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe and several Diplomats in attendance to express support for the charity organisation.
Aligning with the noble initiative which the Foundation represents, senior government officials and top Diplomats from countries like Sudan, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Congo and many others agreed that the Foundation is a true reflection of the African culture of love, compassion and helping the indigent in society.
Speaking during the colourful event, Founder and former Governor of Imo State, who is the current Representative of Imo West Senatorial District, Owelle Rochas Okorocha said he is grooming the younger ones especially his children to continue the good work the Foundation is doing.
He affirmed that education was key saying, “Let us give everyone a chance because we don’t know which one among these children will change Africa.”
Senator Rochas who is also Chairman, Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism thanked everyone, especially his wife, Lolo Nkechi Rochas for identifying with him as Vice President of the Foundation and sharing in the joy and love of the thanksgiving celebration.
The event featured a variety of music and comedy performances by seasoned Artistes, firsthand narratives by beneficiaries of the foundation’s interventions and heartwarming speeches by alumni members and Diplomats.
The Rochas Foundation was founded in 1998 and has impacted the lives of over 21,000 children while sponsoring about 3,000 graduates and undergraduates from different universities across the world.
The Foundation which has 12 schools in Nigeria and an international college provides educational support to students from all parts of Africa.
Sister Foundations include; Juremi, Aro, Elfreeda Foundation and Women of Divine Destiny Initiative.
