Abuja: President Muhammadu Buhari, has been urged to ensure that young persons are appointed in various positions of government still left to be filled.
The Chief of Staff to Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President,Otive Igbuzor, said this in Abuja at the sidelines of the 11th Center LSD/Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Annual Leadership Lecture and Graduation Ceremony of the 11th Set of Center LSD Leadership School.
Igbuzor, who is also the founding Executive Director of the Center, bemoaned the dearth of young people in Nigeria’s leadership space, as he insisted that more youth ought to be given opportunities in governance in the country.
“Nigeria as a country has fallen below the African average in terms of youths and women participation in politics. I strongly believe that more youths, women and more people living with disabilities should be involved in governance” he said.
He also noted that failure of the country to develop the youths has rendered many young people incapacitated in taking up leadership roles in the country, as he called for the implementation of the nation’s youth policy.
Speaking earlier, the acting Executive Director, Monday Osasah told The Sight News, that the level of growth and development any nation can experience, are a function of the quality of its political leadership.
He further pointed out that for any society to live peacefully and productively, it is important that the principles of justice and fairness are upheld by its leaders.
The theme of the event was “Leadership and Justice”.
