Abakaliki: In Ebonyi state, candidates preparing for this year’s Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME) have lamented the payment of N500 for the reprinting of JAMB form.
The candidates said they were asked to pay N600 but it was later reduced to N500 and being forced on them for the reprinting of their examination form slips.
The candidates who were seen in their thousands at a CBT centre, an accredited cyber café beside JAMB office along Amagu Street, Abakaliki, waiting to reprint their slips after payment of the alleged N500,further alleged that they were forced to pay N1, 500 for the just concluded JAMB mock test.
Speaking to The Sight News in Abakaliki, candidates narrated how they were made to pay five hundred naira for the reprinting of form against N200 they claimed should have been paid as an official price for the job.
Some of the candidates, including, Ifenna Chibuike Daniel who is opting to study pharmacy at the University of Nigeria Nsukka said, “I was asked to pay 500 naira to obtain jamb reprint slip”.
He wondered why they were asked to pay five hundred naira over what one can ordinarily pay one hundred naira to get.
Another candidate, Olanma Akam said: “on Monday when we came to generate our print out for the JAMB mock; we were told that we should come on Tuesday with six hundred naira for JAMB reprint. On arriving at JAMB office on Tuesday, we were told to go to cyber cafe around their office for the reprinting and we are now asked to pay five hundred naira for it.
“We tried bargaining the price with the people in charge of the cyber cafe but they said nothing could be done about it because that day was the last day for the reprinting”.
When contacted, a staff of JAMB who spoke on condition of anonymity said the body collects N200 for the reprinting, but due to the rigorous process involved, it was better you go outside for the reprinting.
“What will take you five minutes to get in a private business centre; could make you spend hours before obtaining it in our office”,he stated.
