Ebonyi: Two Persons Nabbed for Planting Explosives at a Bridge

ABAKALIKI: Ahead of Saturday’s rescheduled elections, two persons have been arrested for planting explosives at Idembia bridge,in Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi state.

Governor David Umahi disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki.

Umahi, who explained that the suspects were arrested by the community and members of the vigilante neighbourhood watch group, described the act as terrorism.

In his words; “Just few hours after I got information that explosives were going to be planted around hotels,flyovers and bridges, we were still examining the report and in the night, we got confirmation that indeed, explosives were being planted on Idembia bridge built by the former governor,Chief Martin Elechi. I will ask the commissioner for Internal security to show you the picture snapped at the scene.

”I commend the community and the neighbourhood watch who apprehended them and brought them to the army. The Army has taken over the case and it is a total case of terrorism,no more no less”, he said.

He further stated that; ”Yesterday, again, two aspirants of House of representatives were in Ezza North shooting guns. Fortunately,one of them was arrested by the army with a short gun. I have directed that he be investigated and be properly charged to court.

“Just few hours later,somebody again was arrested in Ikwo local government area with gun”, he remarked.

He, also disclosed that there was an information that a House of Assembly candidate from a political Party,went to buy explosives from quarry site at Abakaliki, adding that as Chief Security Officer of the state, he has directed that the suspect be arrested or declared wanted to face the law.

Umahi, commended the Security agencies in the state for their prompt actions in tackling the security challenges that confronted the state in most recent times as a result of the build up to elections, stressing that no political ambition or office is worth the blood of anybody.
