Ahead of the 2019 General Elections, the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps(NYSC), Major General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure on Thursday took his advocacy visit on adequate security for Corps Members to the 6 Div. Nigerian Army Port-Harcourt and Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman A. Betel.

While at the two security outfits in Port-Harcourt, General Kazaure commended them for their invaluable support to NYSC Rivers State Secretariat but added that there was the need to ensure that Corps Members that would serve as electoral umpires are adequately protected.

He also called on all stakeholders in the State to safeguard the lives of Corps Members during the elections, a statement by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi (Mrs) revealed.

“Corps Members are the future of this country, they are National assets and there is the need to protect them before, during and after the elections”, he said.

Responding, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Usman Betel said efforts are in top gear to protect Corps members with the assistance of other security agencies.

“It is mandatory for the police to protect all electoral officials including Corps members and we promise to do everything to protect all residents of the state”, he said.

In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port-Harcourt, Major General Sahram commended NYSC management for its mentorship role for Corps Members.
He said officers and men of the Division are ready to carry out their statutory responsibilities of protecting all Nigerians.

“The Phyton dance that was recently launched will swallow every form of criminality. I promise you that Corps Members and other peace-loving citizens would be adequately protected”, the GOC said.
