Nigeria’s first Executive President, Shehu Shagari is dead.
Shagari, was a Nigerian politician and school teacher who served as the first and only President of Nigeria’s Second Republic, after the handover of power by General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military government.
His death was confirmed by his grandson, Bello Shagari, who disclosed that he died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday.
According to a tweet by Shagari, “I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja”.
Shehu Shagari, who was born on 25 February 1925, was president in the second republic, from 1979 to 1983, before he was overthrown in a coup by Muhammadu Buhari.
