The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), has urged Muslim faithful to imbibe the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.
The Congress in a statement by the President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, noted that Eid-el- Kabir symbolises sacrifice, discipline, faith, the spirit of give and take, love of God and love for neighbours, obedience to and total submission to God the creator.
According to Wabba, “we wish to congratulate and celebrate with our Muslim brethren on the occasion of this Eid-el-Kabir. In light of this, we use this opportunity to appeal to all Nigerians, not only Muslims to imbibe the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.
“No time is more auspicious than now for us to imbibe these qualities, that we have severe challenges in the polity including frightening political disputations, massive loss of lives due to routine conflicts across the country, resurgence of mutual suspicions, sectarian/hate tendencies, violence, and general threats to our oneness and sovereignty.
“This moment similarly avails us a great opportunity to strengthen the bonds that hold us together and the shared values that stand us on the high pedestal in the community of nations”.
He urged Nigerians not to lend themselves to the machinations of a selfish few who seek power at all costs and not for the benefit of all Nigerians.
“We should rise with a common resolve to challenge those people and those things that polarise us. In the final analysis, we have no country other than this; we can have no better freedom than in our country” Wabba said.
He further charged Nigerians to unite to fight those things that keep them down, adding that Eid-el-Kabir offers an opportunity for serious reflection.
