Abuja: The Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, has said that a vibrant Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Sector, is needed to drive and expand national production frontiers across all sectors of the economy.
Shittu stated this at the on-going 2018 2-Day Ministerial Retreat holding in Ibadan, with the theme: “Mobilizing ICT Institutions for Driving Economic Recovery and Growth”.
A statement by the Deputy Director Press, in the Ministry, Okoro Esther, noted that the Minister said, the Ministry and its Agencies can work effectively,if the ICT Sector is strategized and initiated into the Economic Recovery Growth Plan (ERGP) of the Federal Government.
According to him, “the retreat is aimed at bringing together the strategic management staff of the Ministry and its Agencies to take stock of the activities and achievement of the ICT Sector as well as to boost the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the Government”.
Shittu explained, that the major objectives of the retreat is to build a synergy between the Ministry and its Agencies, strengthen the policy framework and agreeing to targets for the future.
In his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abdullaziz Mashi Abdullahi, said the retreat will leverage the strategic and pivotal role of the Nigeria’s ICT Sector, to drive the nation’s economy through its value added services, to the growth of many other sectors and as an overall enabler of socio-economic development in the society.
Abdullaziz, said the outcome of 2017 retreat, led to the development of the ICT Strategic Roadmap, which has been approved by Federal Executive Council (FEC).
