Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Muhammadu Buhari led government, saying that real corruption is not being fought.
Falana also said that the anti corruption fight by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) as well as its sister agencies, is just a tip of the iceberg.
The SAN who said these at the just concluded NLC at 40 commemoration in Abuja, challenged the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) as well as other Nigerians to join the government’s fight against corruption, adding that they(Nigerians) have nothing to lose.
According to him; “What the government is doing by saying that it is fighting corruption, is a tip of the iceberg. Real Corruption is not being fought.
“If they say they are fighting corruption, we have nothing to lose but to join them and force them to expose themselves to ridicule” he said.
He also urged the NLC to question the government and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on how it intends to spend the about N750 billion looted monies that have been recovered in the last two and half years.
On the herdsmen and farmers clashes, he stated that the solution to the movement of herdsmen from one state to another can be stopped by ranching and however questioned the whereabouts of N100 billion which was given to some state governments in 2014 for ranching, stressing that there are no ranches anywhere in the country to show for it.
Falana also emphasized that all states Attorney General are supposed to prosecute those who kill, adding that it is not the business of the Federal government to prosecute corporate homicide or murder which he said is a state offence.
He charged the governor of Benue state and other states where killings are going on to go ahead and prosecute those arrested by the police so as to have an end to impunity.
On the way forward for the NLC and how it can better serve the Nigerian workers, he said, “the solution is to reorganize the Labour party. Labour Party must no longer be a dumping ground for disgruntled elements in the ruling class”.
The SAN further noted that the Third Force currently being advocated by former president, Olusegun obasanjo must not be a third force of disgruntled people but one of the Nigerian working people led by the Nigerian Labour Congress.
