Aviation Ministry Sympathesizes with Dana Air Passengers Over Accident.

The Ministry of Aviation has sympathised with the passengers on board the Dana Aircraft that overshot the Port Harcourt International Airport runway Tuesday night over the traumatic experience.

The Minister of State for Aviation, Hon. hadi Sirika assured the passengers that the government will not abdicate on its commitment to the safety and security of lives and property in the Nigerian airspace.

Sirika who made this known in a statement signed by the Deputy Director, Press & Public Affairs, James Odaudu, noted that the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has commenced investigation in accordance to ICAO Annex 13, while the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has heightened Safety Oversight over the operator.

According to him, “Efforts are in place to continuously enhance Safety and Security in our industry in accordance with the reformation agenda of the Buhari Administration for the aviation sector”.

You will recall that an aircraft Operated by Dana Airlines with details; 5N-SRI, Flight Number: 0348, Type: MD 83, was involved in an accident yesterday at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

The Aircraft landed at the Port Harcourt Runway 21 and overran the Runway at 1751 UTC, due to heavy rainfall. All 54 passengers  including the crew members onboard were evacuated safely with no reported casualties.
