Abuja: The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA says it is now set to expand the frontiers of the party to enlarge its membership base around the country.
Speaking to newsmen after the National Working Committee, NWC meeting at the party Secretariat in Abuja, the National Chairman of the Party, Chief Victor Oye disclosed that the party will be fielding a candidate in the 2019 presidential election, expressing belief that it can emerge victorious.
He noted that with the outcome of the governorship election in Anambra State, which saw the reelection of the incumbent Governor Willy Obiano, much people are beginning to appreciate the party, hence the need to open the doors to absolve more members.
Chief Oye pointed out that with the dimension of governance introduced in Anambra State, there was no doubt that APGA remains the only party with a clear cut ideology for the country.
“For instance; the ‘Do It Yourself’ project, where 20 million is given per community to undertake projects of their choice per year. We have 181 communities in Anambra. We’ve done that 2 times and now the Governor has increased it to 40 million for the remaining 4years of his second term. And that means before he leaves office in 2022 he would have done 10 project in every community in Anambra State. This is worth doing because bringing development to the grassroot is the essence of government”.
According to him, “people are beginning to appreciate APGA as a party. And it has confirmed what we have always told you that APGA is the only political party with a clear cut ideology. We are confident that in 2019 we will go far. That is why we are looking to doing more harvest in other States around the nation” he said.
The National Chairman further commended INEC,President Muhammadu Buhari, security agencies and Nigerians for the role they played in ensuring that the election was free and fair, stressing that the Buhari administration can replicate same in the 2019 election if preparations begin early enough.
“Contrary to people’s trepidation before the election, what they saw at the end of the day was different from what they estimated was going to happen. Anambra election turned out to be the best ever held in any part of the country. In that election no deaths were recorded, nobody was injured, the election was smooth. This is the only election in which there was no chaos” he insisted
Also addressing newsmen, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye disclosed that the NWC has set up strategic committees to supply the Secretariat with the blueprint upon which the expansion plan can takeoff next year.
“The NWC took bold steps that would expand the coast of the party. We have set up great plans for the party for next year. I want to assure that from the decision we took today that the party you now see will not be the party you will see next year. APGA next year will be much bigger and more colourful in terms of approach and in terms of our accommodation” he added.
