Abuja-The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General, Tukur Buratai has urged teachers especially those in the Command Secondary Schools not to relent in their efforts towards ensuring that the lives of children of men and officers of the Nigerian Army are imparted with the right knowledge and character.
Buratai said this on Thursday during an event to mark World Teachers Day organised by the Corps Commander, Education to honour a select number of teachers in various Command Schools across the country.
The Chief of Army Staff noted that the Army leadership places premium on the occasion as teachers play a major role in ensuring that the morales of soldiers and officers are on top gear.
According to him,”The teachers that have come here are drawn from the Command Secondary Schools and the Nigeria Military Schools, where essentially the people they teach are members of the families of our soldiers and officers.
“And because the welfares of the families impact directly on the welfare of the soldiers and his morale we take this event very seriously.
“Whatever affects the teachers can affect their output and eventually affect the wards of soldiers and officers which has an impact in the way they play their roles as soldiers and as officers of the Nigerian Army” he said.
He pointed out that the event was put in place by the corps commander, Education to encourage and honour teachers for all that they at doing in the Nigeria Army.
Buratai who was represented by the Director, Personnel Services Army Headquarters, Major General, Felix Agugo, held that the influx of members of the public seeking admission into Command Schools proves positive of the enormous impact being made by the teachers.
He said, “My message to the teachers on this occasion is that we have seen the good works that they are doing, we have seen the impact on our families, on the soldiers’ morale. We have even seen the public seeking admission into our schools and State governments asking for the establishment of command schools in their states. So these things wouldn’t have been possible without the teachers putting in their best”.
He further urged them to,”keep up the good work for the benefit of their students, Nigerian Army and mankind”.
Earlier, the Corps Commander, Education, Brigadier General, Lawal Abdullahi said the Army deemed it necessary to recognise teachers in all Command Secondary Schools who have performed excellently well over the years.
He noted that the award is expected to serve as a motivation, not just to these select teachers but to others also who are doing their best to provide quality education for the students.
The representative of the Chief of Army Staff presented awards to the teachers in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the educational development of students of command secondary schools.
Some of the awardees called for an improved school curriculum, insisting that, that remains key in achieving optimum result in imparting knowledge in the students.
The theme of 2017 World Teachers’ Day celebration is “Teaching in freedom, empowering teachers”.
