The Democratic People’s Congress, DPC has lent its voice to the call for the restructuring of the country.

The Party in a Statement signed by its National Chairman, Rev. Olusegun Peters, said devolution of power to the State and Local governments will bring about the emergence of progressive government across the country, thereby fast tracking developments at all levels.

It described the situation in the country as deplorable, calling for a radical approach to governance to uplift the living standards of the people.

“It is sad that since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office he has not executed any meaningful people -oriented project.

“Nigerians are frustrated, impoverished and angry and demand progressive government with a milk of humans kindness.

“The current agitation for restructuring instead of accelerated development of the nation connotes failure of leadership” it said.

According to the statement, the bad roads, erratic power supply, that has stagnated businesses, inadequate water supply and near -total collapse of the education system which has left millions of youths unemployable and resorting to crimes including armed robberies kidnappings, militancy, Boko  Haram insurgency and agitation for secession, clearly portrays Nigeria as a failed nation.

It also called for drastic reduction in the constituency allowance given to law makers for projects at their constituencies, describing it as a drain pipe for self enrichment at the expense of their impoverished constituents.

It said “DPC demand a slash of the pay of the federal lawmakers. The huge salaries and allowances paid to them have made them lose touch with the populace and influenced their call for independent candidacy to aid their come back to office”.
