The President Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Alhaji Shehu Isiwele has denied rumours in some quarters that the association denies women membership registration.
According to him, the association encourages more women to take up transportation as a means of livelihood as women seem to be more careful road users than their male counterparts.
He said, “that information is false and malicious, we have women who are our members and they have a President, we are a gender friendly union that obviously cannot do without women drivers and mechanics. We know that a lot of women will do a lot better on the job that is why we do not only have them as our members we equally encourage more women to come join us and even seat behind the steering” he said.
Lamenting the frequent rate of road crashes along our high ways, Isiwele urged women not to stay away from the business of road transportation so that their motherly compassionate nature can be brought to the high ways and equally reduce the tension on the roads.
RTEAN Boss who regretted the deplorable state of Nigerian roads added that the union was not relenting in its efforts at making government at both federal and state levels accountable and to deliver on their campaign promises.
He noted that the Unions monthly meetings afford its members the opportunity to brainstorm on how to engage government and he happily announced that the government has been very supportive as their union thrives well on good motorable roads.
Speaking on activities of hoodlums who disguise as members of the unions, Isiwele added that the unions taskforce was not relenting to ensure that every criminal minded person using their union to extort money from any person is caught and brought to face the law.
He stressed that the union will not tolerate any form of misconduct in as much as they deal with human lives which once lost can never be recovered.
“Let me use this medium to plead with my members to drive with care, for our passengers, please do not engage your driver with unnecessary conversations when he is driving so as not to endanger your life and that of other passengers” he said.

Will the PIB bill ever be passed in my life time? We are ladened with leaders who do not care so much as to keep in mind that this ravaged country will be inherited by their own kids.
The PIB bill will transform the nation’s petroleum sector. That is a fact but we have very myopically selfish individuals occupying the seat of power.
We need to rise up as owners of this country and demand the right thing be done. And for the National Assembly, please get this job done for the sake of posterity.
