Abuja – Music has been described as a food to the soul, a tool to create change, as well as a powerful tool to reorientate Nigerians and the World at large.

In a quest to promote good governance, through music, participants during a roundtable discussion organised by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) for Civil Society Organisations and Media on the influence of music on politics and security on Tuesday in Abuja, were of the view that the fastest way to reorientate Nigerians is through music.

Leading the discussion, the KAS Country Representative, Mrs. Hildegard Behrendt-Kigozi, said music is a very essential and influential tool everywhere in the world, adding that music makes citizens see things differently.

“Music industry can influence politics the same way it influence citizens. It means citizens will act accordingly. It means many countries before elections, some politicians or parties go to artists to do songs in their favour to influence voters.

“Also to create certain political feelings or create awareness for social problems, it’s done through music.Music plays a very important role particularly in the media as it can be used to promote unity, eradicate violence, motivate soldiers to war and create peace in people’s mind” She explained

She further noted that, “It can be used to express love, bring people in supportive mood during campaigns and motivate them to vote”.

Also, the Quest Media Chief Executive, Mr. Nori Mathias who also doubles as TV Producer, explained that music can be used to motivate citizens to vote the right candidate with integrity during elections.

Matthias, called for synergy between government and musicians to ensure good governance in the country as it would go a long way in enlightening the public.

According to him, “Nigerian youths are highly influenced by music and it can be used to pass the right message during campaigns.Music is very important in enlightening,  particularly on politics.

“Elections are coming up, campaigns will soon start and with music as a tool for campaign, Nigerians can vote the best candidate that will move the country forward. To get Nigeria back to greatness,  music is the right tool, because it brings about unity”.

The Quest Media Boss, however urged the Federal Government and the National Orientation Agency to encourage musicians that put in their best to reorientate Nigerians through the content of their music.

Participants at the roundtable where made up of Civil Society Organisations, (CSOs), the Media and Government agencies.
