Abuja: Following rumours of a possible dissolution of the Kogi APC executive Councils at all levels by the national working committee meeting of the party tomorrow (Tuesday), the Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye and his group from the State stormed the party National Secretariat to get clarity from the leadership of the party.
Addressing newsmen Monday in Abuja, Senator Melaye noted that based on the APC constitution, it is impossible for the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party to dissolve the State Executives, warning that any such attempt will attract a reaction from him and his supporters.
According to him; “The constitution of the party has not in any way empowered the NWC to do that (dissolve the State Executives). Only the NEC of the Party can do that. And if they do that in error, we know what to do”.
On his part, a non serving Senator from the State, Senator Alex Kadiri who spoke on behalf of the group, said it was not right for the APC to fold its hands and see the only APC Senator left in Kogi State to be taken out of the Senate chambers.
According to Senator Kadiri, the national chairman of the APC, John Oyegun assured them during their meeting, that the national working committee will not tamper with the APC in Kogi State, promising them that no such issue as dissolution of the State executives is on the agenda for the NWC meeting tomorrow, Tuesday.
“That is very very important to us. We got an affirmation from the Chairman that that is not in their agenda for their (NWC) meeting tomorrow, Tuesday.
“The executive of the APC at all levels in Kogi State will not be dissolved because there is a procedure for the dissolution of the party executives at the State level even at the national level” he said.
On rumours of the NWC receiving bribes from the State Governor, he said “we disabuse our minds vis-a-vis the mind of the national chairman over the fact that people have accused some persons of moving funds from Kogi to Abuja. We do not have facts to give you anything on this. And the chairman has assured us that his hands are clean on this matter. We believe him”.
The Senator also expressed hope that the report of the Tony Momoh led Reconciliation Committee will help bring the crisis in the State to an end.
“We are satisfied with the position of the national chairman that he will never do anything to frustrate the leaders of the APC in Kogi State” he added.
